Well, you’re in luck, Fazzle’s fabulous formula for forging formidable citations is next! Building citations is a process. Trust this process. Systemize and compartmentalize. That’s the key to growing a business, keeping your sanity, and, well, growing your website. It is boring, tedious, and quite honestly a pain in the ass. However, Fazzle’s system will get you noticed.

The next step is usually outreach campaigns which are a total pain in the ass. However, I have found in noncompetitive areas – and even some moderately competitive – this will get you into the three pack! (You're welcome)

These steps are all you really need for search terms in moderately competitive areas. If you want to dip your toes into areas like Miami or New York City, you will have to up your game. When it comes to building citations, all you need to do is follow the system below. Keep the growth natural. No more than 20 – 30 a month.

I’ve taken great pain and spent countless hours scouring the web for potential link sources. Literally, great pain. Many, many backaches, and stiff necks. I use the following signals to decide whether to include them in the list:

  1. Domain Authority (DA) –
  2. Page Authority (PA) –
  3. Trust Follow (TF) –
  4. Spam Score –
  5. Citation Follow (CF) –
  6. CF/TF Ratio -
  7. Google’s index volume (IDX) - The logic is simple. If a website has tens of thousands of business pages, but there’s only 50 links in Google for that domain there is a problem with the domain. The more pages Google indexes from a domain the more likely it is Google considers pages produced by that domain to be of quality. This often correlates directly with the other signals, but when it doesn't it trumps the others.

Note: if you want only the best of the best utilize only websites that have a high domain authority with a trust follow that is at least half of the correlated citation follow. Also, this list was last updated July, 2022. Websites are always changing! If this list is out of date, verify the various quality signals before creating your links! You will find that what is good and what is bad is in constant flux on the Internet. I will do my best to keep it updated (if it looks like people are using it).

Also, I'm performing a detailed case study of some of my earlier clients. Their websites have been doing extremely well but I noticed they are starting to slip. After a backlink analysis I realized what I fondly referred to as, "unethical scum" have decided to gradually link spammy websites to them.

The process is called negative SEO. Google is pretty good at detecting large volumes of crappy links being maliciously pointed to a domain and will often ignore bombs like that. However, I noticed here a rather insidious slow drip over the last 18 months.

Google's wonderful disavow tool is the first step in cleaning the mess up. I will post informal case studies with notes here of my month-to-month progress and activities so you can see what's involved in reclaiming their former glory. (I hope)
